Ski Prep Program

Why a Ski Prep Program?

So many of our members love skiing and snowboarding, and over the years they’ve asked us to design a program to help prepare them for the demands of the slopes. Many of them love group classes and still want that to be the “meat and potatoes” of their fitness experience, but were looking for an add-on program to supplement their regular CrossFit.

Our group class programming make our members’ legs strong, but in skiing and snowboarding we see much more eccentric loading, which we don’t do a ton of in classes. “Eccentric” refers to the lowering portion of a lift, and it’s what you experience when you’re resisting gravity the entire way down a ski slope. In the gym, we more often train concentric loading, or the “up” portion of a lift. That’s why gym strength doesn’t necessarily translate into the strength you need for skiing — and why even when you start ski season with a strong base of strength from CrossFit, your first week or so of skiing can make you brutally sore if you haven’t trained that eccentric loading!

So this year, we finally went for it and designed a supplemental program to get ready for ski season. Despite the name, the program is suitable for both skiers and snowboarders…we don’t discriminate. :) It’s a six week program, and it starts on Monday 11/14!

Who is this for?

This program is best suited for people who want direction for their training as they prepare for ski season; who have some fitness experience; and no major current injuries. While we can discuss modifications in our call and there are always ways to stay fit while injured, the program is not designed to be a rehab program.

You do not have to be a current TPH member to sign up for Ski Prep!
