Have you seen the sign up list on our whiteboard wall, but you’re not really sure what this Team Series thing is about? This post will give you all the details you need to make you want to sign up and take part!
CrossFit Team Series
First, let’s talk about the Team Series itself. It is structured similar to the Open, but you compete as a team instead of as an individual. From the CrossFit Games website:
“Two sets of partner workouts will be released with a live announcement on Wednesday, Sept. 20, and Wednesday, Sept. 27. In Week 1, pairs will have until Monday, Sept. 25, to complete the workouts and submit their scores. The deadline for Week 2 will be Monday, Oct. 2. This means pairs have five days to complete the workouts once they are released.
“Pairs will be able to choose between the Rx’d and scaled version of each workout. Choosing scaled for one workout will not prevent a team from doing the next workout as prescribed. “This year, the competition will offer the same age groups as the Open: All, 14-15, 16-17, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59 and 60+.
“…Also like the CrossFit Games Open, pairs can perform the events in front of a judge at a participating affiliate or film their performances and submit a link to the video on YouTube with each score.”

In essence, this is a chance for you to partner up with a friend and work out together in an environment as competitive as you want to make it. Like the Open, you can do it just for fun and treat it like any other workout, or you can take it really seriously, strategize, the whole shebang.
If you wish to have your scores compared to the broader CrossFit community, register your team at games.crossfit.com. Registration through CrossFit is not required in order for you to take part in our internal event. All teams who sign up on the whiteboard at the gym will be scored and ranked internally.
What’s Happening in Week 3?
We will use the Team Series as a two-week prelude to an internal team competition and gym social. This will be a one-day event, which will take place on Saturday, October 7th.
We will have two regular classes at 7am and 8am for people who want to workout but did not want to be in the Team Series. At 10am, we will have a fun team competition comprised of people who took part in weeks 1 and 2. The specific format is TBD depending on how many teams we have competing, so stay tuned for more details — for now, just mark your calendars and plan to be there!
After the competition, we will have an awards ceremony and a gym social. We encourage everyone to come spectate and cheer for those working out, then stay for the social. Food will be potluck-style, and we will hang out until approximately 12-3pm. Whether or not you participate in the Team Series, we hope to see you on the 7th!
Q: When can my team do the workouts for weeks 1 and 2?
A: The cool thing about weeks 1 and 2 is that this is up to you and your partner! You can schedule your workouts for whenever both of you have time. Depending on what the workouts are, we may reserve a small section of the gym for people doing the Team Series workouts. If you plan to work out during our peak evening hours, please check in with whoever is coaching and be flexible with your timing, as classes will have priority for space and use of equipment.
Q: How do I find someone to judge my team?
A: Just like the Open, you need a judge and a completed scoresheet for your scores to count. I suggest coordinating with another team ahead of time and agreeing to judge each other so you don’t get stuck without a judge when you’re ready to work out.
Q: What if I can’t do some of the movements or weights?
A: That’s ok! We want as many people as possible to participate, so we welcome all fitness and experience levels. There is an official scaled division in addition to RX. Depending on what CrossFit’s scaled workouts are, we may come up with our own based on the RX workouts. If RX and scaled are both out of reach, we will make sure there is another option that will be accessible for everyone.
